The best general purpose, take-it-anywhere, you-are-going-to-love-it lens is the Canon EF-S 17-55mm f/2.8 IS. It is $1000 smacks at Amazon (linked) and so who the heck can afford it!It's almost twice as much as the camera! But it should be. The lens is more important than the camera. You'll be trading that camera in one of these days - but not this lens!
